So do advisory boards really add value? in total and you’re determined to get value out of the group. If your valuation is already too high then seek approval to let them invest at a price lower than the current value. And if you decide to have one how do you best implement it? Too much effort.

Tags not Folders - LinkedIn Saved Profiles

I'm a big fan of LinkedIn and think that there's incredible value in the site. By convention, tags can be used to look like folders in that all things tagged with the same value can be shown under that "folder" And by convention you can make them hierarchical, but most often you don't.

And by making it open, then it provides value to other people and hopefully to the broader network. There were some suggestions in the LinkedIn group, but nothing that made me think … wow, that would be great.

Twitter is just too sound bite-ish to get a deep window into what someone values and how he/she thinks and writes (while a blog gives you exactly that). In fact when we job candidates I’m way more interested in seeing their blog than I am their resume because a resume can be faked.

Why I Don’t Like Board Observers

And if the person is truly adding value then you can always extend it later. In these cases I recommend that you make the position time bound, as in the person can be a board observer for 12 months or 18 months at which point the observer rights automatically cease. I know other people seem to have less angst on this topic than I do.
