Over 500 applications from more than 90 countries were received in last year’s awards, with winning projects that included a mobile data and messaging system that tracks water supply and optimizes its use in India, a low-cost chicken-feed made from waste mango seed in Nigeria, and even water-less toilets in rural Peru or a work-for-education (..)

Over the past 5 years, we’ve sponsored the building of 5 schools, 8 libraries and 3,000 scholarships for girls in Nepal, Cambodia and India. To help children get access to education in the developing world by raising money for Room to Read.

We’re now over 500 strong, and have raised over $500,000 which were used to build 6 schools, 14 libraries and 300 scholarships for girls in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Vietnam and Tanzania. A community forms around a common goal. Great movements must have a broad human appeal.

The new rupee symbol was picked from over 3,000 entries submitted in a crowdsourcing competition to design the new symbol (the winner received $5,352 in cash).
