My conclusion: if you’re a software engineer, with good technical background and ability, you can pretty much write your own ticket in Southern California. Show you can code in any number of popular web technologies, such as Ruby on Rails, PHP, Python, etc. Build a Facebook application or other social networking app.

They write everything from assembly to jQuery, on PCs to mobile phones, doing hard core computer graphics to high level social networking. You need to hear this from someone who has used.Net extensively, and then happily walked away from it to go open source: You are a wanker. It’s an *freaking open source*.net

1) Be sure to check your proposed business name in various search engines - to check on possible competition - who comes up 1st when you type in the name, are they in the same industry etc. 3) Check the social network username site www.knowem.com to see who else is using something similar. But what I think was hard, and it was something he couldnt consider was that it would be harder to find a *maintaining* programmer, and how much it would cost to run the software, because of technical details he didnt understand. I started an app 3 months back which is blend of user demands and social network but yet to finish it.
