We now have an investment in Cascade ProDrug, using technology developed at our own University of Oregon (based in Eugene, where I live) to help people fight cancer by reducing the toxic effects of chemotherapy. That’s worked out very well for us, which is part of the reason I blog on this site regularly. .

Or something. ”Yes, but… ” Those who have spent much time in the developing world are likely accustomed to dealing with this sort of frustration on a daily basis. The risk-reward tradeoff in finance should hold true in developing and unstable regions as well.

I note a couple of trends: (1) Seed stage venture capital financing have been pretty stable over the past five years and (2) while the number of deals funded was a bit lower in 2009 and 2010 for most regions, the NYC Metro area had a significant increase in the number of seed stage deals funded.
