Just a few years ago, if you wanted to do something big, you needed to go to Silicon Valley. If we try to dissect the magic of Silicon Valley, I think there are five key factors at play: Great schools. It meant frequent flights or moving your company to San Francisco to raise money from Bay Area VCs. Great senior talent.

I came several times to NorCal (where I grew up, actually) and went and met several partners from each Silicon Valley firm. I also made several trips to New York & Boston. Next year I’m going to spend time in Seattle and Boulder in addition. They hired a consultant to help them with the review.
