During all this time, valuation pitched to the investors was in the $1M – $3M range. Find a lawyer and someone who does CTO searches for VC backed companies in your area.

Investors may not be called cofounders, but they always get equity, commensurate with their share of the total costs anticipated, or share of the current valuation. Technology cycles have become a treadmill, and for startups to survive they need to be on a continuous innovation cycle. If the founder was lucky, he got to stay as chairman or CTO. Technology Cycles Measured in Years. A company could go public on its initial wave of innovation, then coast on its current technology for years.
