In India, the leading firms are slightly more concentrated with Sequoia India , Accel Partners , and Nexus Venture Partners being a cut above the rest. The term sheets tend to be fairly standardized and straightforward as well. Term sheets are littered with many more obscure protective provisions and onerous terms.

It’s hard enough to get a job at a venture capital or private equity firm; it’s even more complex to join as a Partner. If you join a fund, you’ll invest your financial capital, but far more importantly, your reputational capital. The other Partners have lost faith and want to cut their losses. So assessing fit is critical.

First, if the VC does 15-20 of these under one partner then it is certain he can’t spend any time with these investments. I believe these VC funds have suffered some amount of reputation fall out. We used the Y Combinator open source term sheet. Great reputation. And then there is GRP Partners.

I had coffee with an entrepreneur friend the other day who is in the early stages of putting a company together, and he recounted how his informal conversations with a venture capitalist had quickly escalated into a full partner pitch in just a few weeks. Scuttlebutt in the marketplace is just that, and is a reflection on reality.

Another thing that skews the process is the lack of accessibility of many partner-level VCs, especially to diverse communities. You're a partner at a firm, you're married, have kids, etc., I offered a term sheet to lead a $1.6mm financing. Look, I get it. Overly simplistic?

A lawyer I asked about it said: When the company goes public, the SEC will carefully study all prior issuances of stock by the company and demand that it take immediate action to cure any past violations of securities laws. 5 ] Another danger of less known firms is that, like angels, they haveless reputation to protect.
