If you post up an ad to an online job board asking for someone to join your very high risk early stage startup company the odds of getting someone who decent are slim to none. Another option is sweat equity. Motivation to work for sweat equity is something else that founders tend to take for granted.

Someone who is egotistical enough to call themselves a rockstar, yet humble enough not to want 99% of the equity? I do disagree about two other points: First, this isn't the "quora rockstar engineer" perspective. It's my perspective as well and I'm not a software engineer let alone a rockstar.
