Good article, this is exactly the reason Im still primarily a PHP developer rather than Ruby or Python. Although Ive enjoyed learning and using other platforms/languages, its the fact that PHP has grown around building websites rather than satisfying the intellectual needs of Computer Science researchers. the list goes on).

Everyone has to be a generalist and able to work on any kind of problem - specialists will be (at best) somewhat bored and (at worst) highly distracting because they want to steer product development into whatever realm they specialize in.
