Take software developers as an example. Coming up with an idea for a new piece of software, developing it, and testing it is expensive. Yet once the software is coded, it can be reproduced millions of times at virtually no cost. It is a different story for traditional manufacturers, which have steep fixed and variable costs.

At this point we are planning to use a consumer Internet company as an example, but we are also considering using a SaaS-based software company. As a special bonus for me, I get to work with four students on a project. I love working with and mentoring students, and am especially thrilled when they proactively reach out to me.

In 20 years we will look back at the first few elections of the global Internet age the way we remember the smoky backrooms of elections past. As in where to build that electric car plant, where to put that server farm, where to assemble that team of software engineers. It is the choices that capital makes. Why will this happen?

Both my parents and my sister are software engineers … I actually have female co-founders in my companies – an amazing developer & manager Agata (also included in that Top 100 list) and Socha, an architect-turned-designer. Wanted to be a high-energy physicist and dreamt of working in CERN with the LHC. That it’s sad.

Had I known it was going to take the internet by storm I probably would have been a bit more careful with my word choice (especially referring to.NET as a language, doh!). This literally the dumbest, most ignorant piece that I’ve ever read about software development and/or hiring programmers. Look what happened to Gawker.
