So we as VCs search for entrepreneurs/founders who have the whole package or as much of it as possible. If this idea was so big then why would they risk not being first to market, not building defensible IP for the sake of a few hundred thousand dollars extra in lock-up money at a big company? Few people have it.

This thinking is largely driven by the venture capital industry (and subsequently Wall Street) who are in search of high margin, highly scalable businesses. You own the IP you create. My advice wasn’t to shut down all product / IP initiatives but rather to be clear on their purpose and how to monetize them.

I’m too busy this week to find all the links for you but a quick Google or TechCrunch search should reveal many. In the rare instances where I get a troll I’m able to delete their comment and block them by email address or IP address. TechCrunch switched from Disqus to Facebook. So should I switch? Me thinks, not.

It’s why as an investor I look for talented teams with long-term vision, a unique point-of-view, differentiated IP and a desire to build something enduring. Bryce is a bit like the entrepreneurs I search for. Double-down on great people, process & IP. Many “me, too&# companies will perish. I love that.

One idea I’ve been searching for is a platform that enables the creation of serialized programs with audience participation. Most won’t be of the quality that you want but you now have tons of material and inspiration for your show and you own all of the submitted IP. At whatever level. It’s American Idol for makers.
