With the growth of open-sourced platforms and advent of ‘freemium pricing models’, the time to try is now. My personal favorites would be Java (Grails), Ruby (on rails) and PHP. Plus, by the time you’re ready to expand into a paid service, your business should have some revenue trickling in the front door to justify the upgrade.

Frictionless sales means reducing the pain for customers to adopt and use a service/product and consequently reducing the cost of sales and marketing to get a customer and generate revenue. Ultimately what you want is sales leverage where every $1 you spend on sales and marketing equals multiples of that in terms of revenue.

Dont go C or Java, python is good for prototyping and easier to learn. Pat Patrick (2010-06-20) # Im programming in PHP and Java and designing relational and object oriented data bases since 12 years and I do absolutely agree with Drews comments (#50). Yes its great to implement "task A", but will it drive revenue?
