When the Federal tax laws were changed in 2018 to eliminate the deductibility of state income tax, I made the assertion, in the context of Startup Communities, that this would cause movement of people and companies across state lines, as this now created another layer of competitive advantage for states with no income tax.

I focused on what it is I do, I want to be approachable to the community and also I thought it important to express an idea of ‘moving with the times’, being fresh, consistent with modern practices and the such. I will always remember his pre-speech pep talk: “Dyer, your entire net worth rides on not screwing this up.” Hurricane Irma had a major negative revenue impact on one whose fall book of business was mostly in Florida. Along with some friends from Yale (my alma mater), I recently brainstormed some ideas to accelerate a university’s campus tech community. Marketing of tech community : Yale Tech News , Yale Entrepreneurship Magazine. Those unique assets are sometimes leverageable into a resource for strengthening the university’s tech community.
This is going to be BIG.

This theory also makes no sense because, regardless of whether there are tax increases or not, you’re still going to have places like Florida that provide little to no public infrastructure or services and therefore zero income tax. Florida is always going to be a cheaper place to live, regardless of a 1-2% tax shift either way.
