Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph to combat late fees for video rentals. When he did manage to start his own business, it was short-lived and failed. Before Jobs returned to the business in 1997, its sales, and popularity all steadily declined for 12 years, nearly driving it into bankruptcy.

As we walked through the Levensohn Vineyard last week with our viticulturist, Zach Berkowitz , and our vineyard manager, Stan Zervas , of Silverado Farming , Zach cut into a green berry from one of our vines. Today, 1997 is the leader. Finally, 2014 is has the fourth highest GDD accumulation, trailing only 2013, 1997, and 1996.
