After my column a few months ago regarding Jeff Bezos' now famous (and incredibly profitable) investment into Google in 1998, I was deluged with comments and opinions on this question - was his investment luck or was it foresight? When Google went public in 2004, that $250,000 investment translated into 3.3 Invest in People.

In 1998, Google was the new kid in an established (if not quite mature) market for Internet search, and by 2004, it was by far the leading Internet search engine, handling almost 85% of the search requests on the web.

It was 1998 and the internet wasn’t exactly readily available. It sounds simple now, but in 1998 it was unheard of. I started my business back in 2004 when I wanted to escape the corporate rat race.
