We asked entrepreneurs and business owners about their best business or entrepreneur turnaround story and here are the responses. #1- The company didn’t turn a profit until 2003, but by 2005 business was booming – Netflix was shipping out a million DVDs daily. My favorite entrepreneur turnaround story is that of Lord Alan Sugar.

A lot of people ask me what it was like raising the Series A round for LinkedIn back in 2003. I thought I’d revisit it and share the story… First, you have to rewind mentally to early 2003. Ok, now you have the context for early 2003. He provided our initial seed funding to launch the website publicly on May 5, 2003.

I ran my first marathon in London this way in 2003 raising $3,000 for Parkinson’s disease (and finishing in under 4 hours – my publicly stated goal). Measuring viral adoption is obviously important. Most people under estimate the challenge of winning “share of mind” the least understood concept with tech entrepreneurs.

I remember just a decade ago in 2003 when we all laughed at how dumb people in the 90′s were talking about the race to “capture as many eyeballs as possible” before your competition. “It has been a while that we’ve been trying to get the viral coefficient up but we haven’t seen progress.

Another week left me with a short list of problems that entrepreneurs need help with (since I’m pretty familiar with the space), and after another few days had them ranked in order of my interest. In the top 3 was the following problem: entrepreneurs need more organic search traffic to their websites.

It was only around 2003 that the first podcasts appeared, but actually what made Podcasts mainstream, was the show Serial , an investigative journalism podcast hosted by Sarah Koenig, which started as a side project of the National Public Radio’s (NPR) show “This American Life”. Serial exploded in popularity and spread virally.
