The University of Maryland is now integrating the Lean LaunchPad ® into standard innovation and entrepreneurship courses across all 12 colleges within the University. We didn’t know it at the time, but with that investment we had paid for front-row VIP seats to witness the origins of Customer Development and the Lean Startup.

In 2012 the NSF will put 150 teams of the best scientists in the U.S. through the Lean Launchpad class. In-between the 2011 pilot class and the first NSF class of 2012, I got a call from Congressman Dan Lipinski. He wanted to fly out to Stanford and sit in the Lean LaunchPad class about to start in the engineering school.

In Washington, where I live, small assisted living homes are known as adult family homes. In 2012, when I was most serious about buying an assisted living home, large firms were reporting occupancy levels between 89 and 92 percent. Unlike nursing homes, assisted living homes generally do not accept Medicaid or other government funding.
