An alternate outcome that I also unfortunately observe in some cases are companies who had extreme early success with an initial product adoption but failed in key areas that limited the growth and therefore the ultimate financial outcomes. How profitable is my product or service? As an early-stage VC I love this phase.

Your product demo crushed. I was amazed at your innovation, approach, cleverness, enthusiasm, leadership traits, background, education, team?—?everything. New York, Chicago, Boston, etc. But the real product being bought or sold is “trust.” You had an amazing meeting with an investor. The dialog was great. everything.

Here’s what was exceptional about Larry: Potent Leadership Skill. A corollary to Larry’s leadership style was that, at least in my day, he did it with great humor, lots of off-the-cuff funny stuff. He would set up some people to develop a product or go after a customer or whatever, and have competing teams trying to do the same thing.
