I got a bunch, but one that stood out was from a group of incoming MBA students at the University of Chicago Booth. At this point we are planning to use a consumer Internet company as an example, but we are also considering using a SaaS-based software company. Now he is slated to enter Booth at the University of Chicago in the fall.

Chris, many software companies work on a project basis. The first was a shakeup in our software engineering team, which was originally based out of New York City. We found an extreme talent in Adeel Ahmad who worked between Lahore, Pakistan and Chicago, Illinois at the time.

What is perhaps different from other regions is that we have large indigenous aerospace industry and a big high-tech import/export trade as opposed to a lot of software companies. Is it any surprise to see Zulily in Seattle, Wayfair in Boston, ExactTarget in Indianapolis, TrueCar in Los Angeles, GroupOn in Chicago or BuzzFeed in NYC?

I also learned about this amazing resource in Chicago called BuiltInChicago which I intend to use for my trip there in November. I know that theres a lot of GroupOn bashing still in the press, but you can’t deny the kickstart its had on the local Chicago tech community. Every city should have a “BuildIn” program.
