Prior to the JAIC General Shanahan ran Project Maven, an unintentional dry-run for how the DOD and commercial companies could partner (or not) to build AI-enabled apps. Maven partnered with Google to build a computer vision tool for imagery analysts to automatically detect objects/targets. We started with a cross-functional team.

So while others can run the JEDI cloud for the DOD, nobody owns running application services for the DOD. And the JAIC can’t run them because we’re not an operational software organization. So you have to find that partner that has a belief in solving a problem. Joint Common Foundation. I want you to come into that.

My partner in my first company (Dave Jilk – now the CEO of Standing Cloud ) used to have an endearing way of dealing with this. The person responded with a five minute explanation with a lot of details, all factually correct and contextually relevant, but at the end still didn’t answer the question.

One of our software engineers wrote all the code. My partner Dave Jilk, also a full-stack programmer (and a much better one than me), helped immensely as he completely grokked relational database theory. I’d dress up in a suit and go with the management consultants to the client and participate in meetings.)

4- Partner and create books. Find (at least) three institutional partners who will use us. Have potential partners reach out to us. Noble Child’s cloud-based applications help systematically take on the growing foster care crisis caused by the opioid epidemic. I cannot wait to see what 2019 brings. .
