This is the case when the requirements of these events don’t actually include building a real business or product. They didn’t wait until their universities hired a director of this new program. They just booked some space at NYU, threw up a fundraising page on Kickstarter, and started talking it up in the community.

I grew up here, went to school here, and have worked hard over the last 5+ years to help build up the NYC innovation community. Other times, and look, I hate to tell anyone that their idea isn’t well thought out or well executed, but sometimes your idea/company/prototype just isn’t very good. I was there, too.

I responded by saying attending an event like this was a good start and then asked him if his VC company was interested in interests outside of Technology and Medical. Successful women in the investment community need to be on the lookout for them and support them by funding, giving access to resources or simple advising.

The new FinTech Innovation Lab , an annual program run by the New York City Investment Fund and Accenture, had their launch event on Thursday night. It attracted a very high quality crowd of senior executives from major investment banks and members of the innovation community — two groups that don’t normally mingle.
