And don’t pitch a Boston newspaper on your San Francisco startup. Even if your own company isn’t newsworthy, you are on the ground in the startup community, and that is valuable. You have a new hire (if they’re not the CEO or CTO, reporters probably won’t care). Pitch late. The operative word in “news” is “new.”
