On Friday, at the LA CTO Forum , I heard from a couple of CTOs having trouble finding good developers. I’ll leave that for another discussion as the inquiry that I keep getting is more about local talent than offshore talent. If you have other places you use to source developers, please let me know.

Do we have offshore developers? Bring on a security-conscious CTO at the beginning. As a startup, companies should answer these questions when researching their own personal cyber security goals: Are we an online business? Do we have store fronts? Do we have an internet connected product/app?

It will be used to power Industrial IoT sensors to reduce wiring complexity and to high-power applications that will provide easy access to primary sources of energy such as remote and offshore renewable. I am a serial innovator and started three companies previously.

After six months, I was able to sign up a local CTO to help build a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that enabled me to secure funding. The offshore work should be completed parallel to that done onshore. With some cash in hand, I started building a local team of developers to be able to improve the product more quickly.

There were a lot of questions about outsourcing/offshoring and startups. I dont see any reason why having the team offshore is any more of a liability in this area than, say, having to do this work while selling through a channel (and hence, not having direct access to customers). Talk about waste.
