Responses ranged from, “hey, they’re in a HUGE market&# to “it is an amazing company and their technology rocks.&# And this is happening in mezzanine (pre-IPO) deals as well. Or worse yet they may never get financed. In the past I have publicly commented on some specific companies that seemed over valued.

If you don’t want to read that post, the summary is: Open source computing drove computing costs down 90%, which spurred innovation in technology. I believe some VCs have entered the early-stage market as simply an option on future financing rounds. This led to an explosion in startups. But obviously I’m biased.
