It was originally started as a college dorm project, where many of the best products on the web seem to hatch. Drupal was launched in 2001, and Acquia started in 2007.

In fact, that’s exactly how I ended up at Cheezburger—a friend of a friend introduced me to one of the angels who had invested, who then introduced me to the founder (who needed a CTO).
