But I object to these bills because they put Massachusetts at a competitive disadvantage in the emerging Internet economy, at a time when more entrepreneurs are eyeing NY and CA for new companies, instead of MA. Well, 1M/1M is focused on helping businesses generate $1M in annual revenue, whatever be the nature of the business. We see a lot of businesses that can be characterized as social enterprises, ranging from education to rural development businesses. Also, the business model for the business is unclear.

There are many companies that are competing to be the “operating system” for small businesses. Among those competing for this vision are PayPal/eBay, Square and Groupon, with each struggling to pull together pieces of the equation and, importantly, reach the small business in a cost-efficient manner at scale.

Then Greg Snead, also from Tacoma, discussed Orbiter , an RFID venture that is moving along quite nicely, having clocked more than $700,000 in revenue last year.
