Towards the end of my OPT (mid 1998) is when the H1-B visa cap issue hit. In October 1998, I was excited beyond belief when I received an approval notice for an H1-B visa through my own company! Technology leadership and innovation knows no bounds. I hired my TA as my first employee and paid him $12.50 In a startup cash is king.

He argued that software engineers don’t finish what they start, and that you’re better off paying a technical person than partnering with one. A business partnership is like a marriage and finding a long term partner is a very difficult thing. Finding someone to partner with isn’t easy.

It was 1998 and the internet wasn’t exactly readily available. It sounds simple now, but in 1998 it was unheard of. After that I also have had additional training in occupational health and leadership and other odds and ends on the same theme. I started McCourt Leadership Group to do executive coaching, speaking and writing.
