For example, distribution to find new apps in a mobile Internet is tightly locked down by the oligopoly of Apple and Google. Distribution of media is tightly controlled by YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, Amazon and a handful of others. Our social graphs are locked in Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat. Regulation will come.

What is the mix of revenue between ads, subscriptions, digital downloads & ecommerce. They never did any PR or marketing to get their videos to first get shown on the news during the 2000 election. JibJab has an ad model that relied on exclusive distribution deals with the big portals. That’s what JibJab focused on.

We can see ecommerce/marketing has been boosted by COVID and security is in second place, with cyber criminality not slowing down. In 2000 and 2008, the economic crises had a dramatic impact on the tech ecosystem, but 2020 seems to be very different. The data analytics category is showing early promise with many companies in the space.
