How can you tell what caused that – optimization, SEM, seasonality, word-of-mouth, or something else? In 2012, MarketingSherpa posed the question , “Did optimization or testing demonstrate ROI in 2011?” However, you have to have a predictable traffic stream (ie PPC) and even then it is rough. ROI is Difficult to Measure.
