Recently I wrote a post arguing to make the definition of a Startup more inclusive than that to which Silicon Valley, fueled by Venture Capital return profiles, would sometimes like to attach to the word. Most of what I think about startup communities came from mentorship by Brad Feld through hours of private discussion and debate.

As a person who spends much time thinking about the venture capital & startup community and who has seen good times & bad times across many economic cycles the article is well written. And the wrong message is frankly strewn all over Silicon Valley. And this is fueled by the VC culture in Silicon Valley.

I had this discussion with Steve with the camera rolling and we talked about “ The Secret History of Silicon Valley ” as place that largely grew out of defense and government spending plus research labs around the Stanford campus.
