Of course CapEx has been transformed into OpEx via changes in the tech infrastructure layer (open source, virtualization & cloud computing, offshoring, etc.). In the sector of internet-enabled services where a majority of the Micro VC investment has transpired, startups can fundamentally do more with less.

There were a lot of questions about outsourcing/offshoring and startups. I dont see any reason why having the team offshore is any more of a liability in this area than, say, having to do this work while selling through a channel (and hence, not having direct access to customers). Talk about waste.

One consideration that comes up often when outsourcing is whether to go with a local or offshore vendor. I’ve done both and in my experience picking the right offshore solution can be an advantage (freeing up time and money to deploy elsewhere).
