The variable costs – the cost of the physical CD-ROM on which the Windows program is engraved and the cost of the cardboard box in which it is shipped – are trivial. This means it costs Microsoft billions of dollars to make the first copy of its program, but only a few cents to make the second. These costs are largely fixed.

He came to the United States in 2001 to study Software Engineering at Auburn University. I wanted several of the software engineers to join me at our next startup but their employment was tied to BuildOnline. When he had finished the program the US wanted more doctors due to the Vietnam War.

Here''s the simplest form of that cycle: Week -1 - Planning/End-of-Cycle - Software engineers are planning: writing specifications, doing light prototyping, and experimentation. Week 0 - New Feature 1 - Software engineers are busy building brand new features. Growth changed all that. Over a thousand people work here now.

I came to the United States in 1992 at the age of 17 (so there, now you know exactly how old I am!) I completed my Bachelors in 3 years (another story for another time) and so was able to go directly into a professional Masters program (also at Carnegie Mellon) and complete a masters degree without having to apply for a new visa.

We needed routers, switches, databases, caching software, load balancers, application servers, browsers, compression algortyhms, streaming technology, low-cost storage, management consoles, programming libraries and on and on.
