This week I wrote about obsessive and competitive founders and how this forms the basis of what I look for when I invest. I quit a very well paid job at Accenture with very little time remaining before making partner and took a risk of having no job security at all. And that’s what differentiates founders and early employees.

Alan was a gracious host and a “detail merchant” whose focus on the quality really showed. My action item – I will soon announce the GRP Partners CEO Summit. I also got the chance to hear from and meet the founder of About.com – Scott Kurnit – who gave a lively talk that challenged much startup conventional wisdom. I agree.

According to Fortune , in 2006, female founders were involved in only 2.95 Teams of male and female founders and the implication for team composition. Obviously, startup teams aren’t always comprised of all men or all women; teams of mixed gender founders exist, and some of them get funding. 33 billion in venture funding.

After raising our first round of funding for Loudcloud in 1999, we went to visit our new venture capital firm and meet their full team. As founding CEO, I remember being quite excited to meet our financial backers and talk about how we could partner to build a great company. That question tortured me for months.

Today, I went to an event in the city of Campbell to hear Matt Mickiewicz, Founder of SitePoint, Flippa, and 99Designs, talk about how he got started. Later, Michiewicz partnered up with someone much older (not 15) who had the business know-how to take WebmasterResources to the next level. I guess this makes sense.

M y company had raised a seed round of capital in late 1999 even before either of us were full time in the company (ominous side note: on the way to pitch our seed investor, Delta Partners, a man walking right in front of me died of a massive heart attack making me late to the meeting.
