Refine your elevator pitch. Here are a few perspectives on it: Building a sweat equity team You simply need to network. Go to user groups. Go to tech (or other relevant industry) events. Eventually you'll catch the ear, the vision, of someone who would like to jump on board, and has something you need in return.

Pin down your elevator pitch. Everyone knows what an elevator pitch is, but many underestimate the importance of investing the time and energy into getting it right. Greg also served as CEO of eHarmony from 2006-2010 where he drove significant global growth through an expansion to 15 countries worldwide.

We did a full day entrepreneurial retreat called “ ADPrentice 2010.&# This is the second time we’ve done this – the last time was ADPrentice 2005. On Saturday, I spent the day with my MIT fraternity (the Lambda Phi Chapter of Alpha Delta Phi) at the Microsoft NERD facility in Cambridge next to MIT.

It is for this reason that I invested a lot of effort into building the reputation of my start-up, Flat-Club , from its initial launch in 2010. The first success was winning the TechCrunch One-Sentence-Pitch Challenge. I found that a particularly rewarding way of boosting reputation was through start-up competitions.

Greentech deals had a breakout quarter with deals and dollars up 45% and 145% respectively vs. Q4 2010. Practice every step, including the elevator pitch to get the first meeting.
