Most of what I think about startup communities came from mentorship by Brad Feld through hours of private discussion and debate. Think Fred Wilson, Tony Hsieh or Brad Feld.

I'll bet you don't know where the Center of NY's Tech Community and Center of Creativity is. In fact, it is "well-known internationally as the original home of New York's technology community.". There was a computer training lab run by a company called Prosoft, but that's like having an Apex Tech and expecting to be the next Detroit.

I recently wrote about the 12 tips to building successful startup communities. But after The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 the city had to build from scratch. Failure in startups seems to now be embedded in startup communities like NY and LA. I’m absolutely certain it is critical to any startup community.

After a week at home I hit the road again around the release of Startup Communities and spent almost all of October on the road, reaching Boise, Oklahoma City, Chicago, Des Moines, San Francisco, Seattle, Detroit, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Lexington, and Louisville. But I’m totally and completely fried.
