You might like to think that a bunch of savvy venture capitalists saw a market niche for raising smaller funds or perhaps there was a generational shift where disgruntled junior partners spun out of bigger firms to start their own gigs. Consider using Amazon EC2, 99Designs uses it, they get 5.25TB of images uploaded frequently, EC2 helped them scale with customer demand. Some vendors go bankrupt.

At the time we viewed Amazon’s offering, EC2 as too nascent. Imagine that you can develop software on your local computer but the entire service is delivered virtually through a partner in the same way people consumer energy with all of the scale benefits that go with that. Think about it.

EC2 - The Elastic Compute Cloud Service EC2 is essentially a grid in the box. You then can ask EC2 to start instances with your configuration on the fly.
