I just returned from a weeklong trip to India, having spent a few days each in Delhi and Bangalore to meet with local entrepreneurs and investors. Noah Smith recently wrote about why everyone should get excited about India’s prospects. I had only a few connections in India before this trip.

The university found government contracts profitable as the government reimbursed their overhead charges (their indirect costs.) In some cases, branches of the military contracted directly with Stanford which worked with local contractors in Silicon Valley to build these components or systems for the military.

Thomas Clayton has started and run numerous high-tech startups in Silicon Valley. The process of raising money in Asia is very different from raising money in Silicon Valley and, frankly, it’s not nearly as easy. As I touched on before, China and India have the most mature VC communities.

Today, at the roundtable, we had a discussion around the topic, especially in the context of specific geographies that were represented at the session: Dublin, Ireland, and Kolkata, India. It is no longer Silicon Valley's exclusive domain. They simply need the diligence and work ethic to learn and to implement.
