Now we had no choice: we fired everyone, shut down our month-to-month office, sold all the office furnishings, and moved the business to our apartments in downtown Boston. Len and his partner Jerry Poch bought my first company in 1993. I still remember the first time I met Len, sitting in a restaurant in downtown Boston, wondering to myself “who is this guy and what does he want?” Len Fassler is one of the most amazing people I’ve had the honor of knowing.

You present to a group of judges including Warren (MAK Technologies), Rich Farrell (Full Armor), Clark Waterfall (Boston Search Group), and Michael Hackel (DiningIN) who are all EO Boston members.

If you’re older than 30 and even remotely aware of NBA history, you may remember that the NBA championships of the 1980s were dominated by the dueling dynasties of the Boston Celtics, led by Larry Bird, and the Los Angeles Lakers, led by Magic Johnson. The series was tied after four games, and Game 5 was headed back to the Boston Garden.

We were introduced in the spring of 1993 by Jim Galvin, CEO of Allcom, which had just been acquired by Len’s company Sage Alerting Systems. After Jim’s company was acquired, Len asked him who else he should talk to in the Boston area. Jim introduced us, and that led to lunch near our office in downtown Boston.
