Springboard has launched a new mentorship-led accelerator program for European startups. Springboard aims to help early stage startups. The program offers seed capital, office space, and "most importantly - that magical ingredient of 'smart-community' with mentors and other entrepreneurs."

We downsized from 35 people in 2001 and are now a size that allows us to work directly with clients. We do a lot of B2B and also have an "Early Stage Branding" practice for technology startups.

While a flood of new VCs came into existence during the late 90’s internet boom, many had difficulty raising new funds after the crashes of 2000-2001 and 2008 , and as a result significantly fewer fund managers exist now compared to a decade ago. Why bother with all the extra costs, people, programs, etc? and no, we didn’t.

I was an early employee at PayPal and back in the 2000-2001 timeframe, and we ended up taking a fairly significant amount of strategic investment (tens of millions of $) from various banks in the US, Europe, and Asia. All things being equal, seed and early stage startups are not usually well suited to take strategic investments.

Before you agree to take equity in lieu of cash, you need to understand that any individual early stage start-up company equity is most likely going to be worthless. The best start-up I ever invested in went bankrupt in 2001. This prevents automated programs from posting comments. what kind of stock you are getting.

Within a year, by late 2000 / early 2001 consulting firms were firing people en masse. On July 27th, 2001 Accenture IPO’s and many of the partners grew fabulously wealthy. Andersen had lost its long-time CEO, George Shaheen, was hemorrhaging staff and wasn’t exactly known as being an Internet pioneer.
