I agreed to do the interview because the story was about what other companies can learn rather than about airbnb in particular. If you have information about a situation that has gone terribly wrong don’t cover it up. ’ You’re being talked about for the wrong thing. Make the story be about your market.

To be fair, it is the first value on our list, but for whatever reason, the value about Ownership was top of mind when I decided to create this series. And we aren’t shy about saying it publicly, either. All employees are important to us achieving our mission – otherwise, they wouldn’t be here. We invest in our people.

Know about two or three of their portfolio companies! Even if you don't know specifically about the companies, know a little bit about the industry. . Be prepared to talk about any experience you have that is relevant to the position. You know how to use computers and have an affinity for the internet.

Also, for most of us, not having done it before, we have no idea where or how to start. Use social networking and blogging to get your message out. Nothing says you are serious about a business like handing out professional business cards at local events and Chamber of Commerce meetings. Get business cards made.

First of all, the glory days of “dot.coms” are gone, when investors “didn’t care” about profitability, and all the money went to growth. But some of you will surely say “What about Facebook and Twitter, who focused on growth first and are clearly successful?” Of course, growth is implied in every focus, and profit enables growth.
