Over the past eight months, many companies in the Version One portfolio have released funding announcements including Uniswap , Jam , SilviaTerra , Patch , Premadonna , Cap Hill Brands , Opyn and Cape Privacy. Too often, we see the opportunity to capture this mindshare lost because the focus is too much on the financing itself.

And my sense is the trend carries outside of our portfolio these days. While I’m sure TechCrunch and other publications are at or near record traffic levels, the influence is more diffuse these days due to wide number of tech blogs and reach of personal/social media. What’s changed?

But the short answer is that the best intro is from a portfolio company of that VC or by other entrepreneurs whom that VC respects. You need to build genuine relationships with these portfolio startup founders as well as trust with them and the rest will follow. So make sure you have a solid PR strategy. Create urgency.
