A big technical challenge we studied was piping streaming video over networks. We needed improvements in video compression and in TCP/IP – the underlying protocol that essentially runs the Internet. The same spreadsheet also predicted we’d see a music downloading service in 1999 or 2000. Gene Kim laughed at my prediction.

It’s a very tough decision to walk away from a senior role at what I consider one of the most successful tech companies of Internet era.
