Governance is clearly not a core competency of the US; it’s time we outsourced governance to those who do it better than we do. Based on these discussions, I began thinking about ways the US could run its government more effectively.

I also (as Fred describes us youngins) "work hard, put in ridiculous hours, are on top of all the latest trends, companies, technologies, etc. If you make a comment about age, it will always be taken in the context of how old you are versus how old your audience is. Try to think about why the person said what they said.

This is a really smart way of thinking about startups. It would have taken us just a week to have launched an early prototype. We could have manually created the emails with deals we found and used MailChimp to send them out. It was going to take us a few months to build the tech back-end. I was believer.

What interesting about that experience was not seeing how startup founders reacted when under pressure. Instead what I’d like to offer here is some insight into what can go on in the minds of judges sitting in such business competition panels, so founders know that us judges have our own unique challenges.
