Firms will start to torture founders with endless diligence requests.

By now you probably know that David Sacks , co-founder of PayPal and founder of both Geni & Yammer made some observations on Facebook that Silicon Valley “as we know it” was coming to an end. We once thought Microsoft was a monopoly on the Internet due to IE. Where David is Totally Right. Laughable now.

As a potential investor, I always think of the high rate of failure of disruptive technologies, due to the longer learning curve of customers, infrastructure change consistently required, and higher marketing costs. If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. You need metrics to incentivize the right team behaviors.

Indeed, Silicon Valley was born as a center for weapon systems development and its software and silicon helped end the Cold War. One of the unintended consequences was that many of the academics went off to found a wave of startups selling their technology to the military. America’s adversaries understand this.
