In his book, Moore limits his discussion to the transition between customers that are visionaries (early adopters) and customer pragmatists (early majority), in the context of high technology products that appear “disruptive,” meaning they move innovation in that arena to a new level. Product development chasm. Marketing and sales chasm.

Focus is the art of limiting your scope to the key function that really matters for the majority of customers. YouTube did it with videos, Instagram did it with photos, and Amazon did it with books. Of course, once you have a brand and more resources, it can pay to expand your book selling to a full e-commerce site.

Although I prefer the more signal-inducing metric, “would you read this book again?” or “would you recommend this book to a friend.” The book goes into an incredible amount of detail about Leonardo, his entourage, and all the various cast of characters at that time of the Renaissance. Isaacson is a true master of his craft.
