I’ve heard a lot of people question whether there is too much money in venture capital chasing too few great deals. Others believe that new business models are emerging that could replace venture capital all together. There are significantly more Internet users and we’re no longer newbies b. some have pronounced.

In another report more specifically on Venture Capital Activity for 2012 , CB Insights noted relatively flat but still healthy funding levels, compared to the previous year (down in total dollars by 7.5%, but up in total deals by 7%). The Internet sector is tops for seed deals. Top five states for venture capital.

Tech ventures, some of whom were presenters at the earlier Demo Day, joined ventures in green energy and the life sciences. Norse-Corp.com developed a fraud-detection system using distributed Internet-monitoring tools, and now is looking to sell this to credit card payment networks for their antifraud programs.

California is still the leading state for venture capital. 60% of the funding in the state when to Internet and Healthcare companies. Over 50% of the deals in Washington were in early-stage companies, and almost 60% of the deals were to Internet firms. Internet Hot, Hot, Hot. Alas, Poor Washington.

In fact, with one exception, the office locations are fairly binary – either they’re located in/outside Kendall Square in Cambridge [green + purple below] or in the Leather District in Boston (which is sometimes but not always counted as part of the Innovation District) [orange]. In reality, though, that “area” isn’t too large.
