NewTV will depend on partners like telcos to distribute the content. Given Verizon just shut down Go90 , its short form content video service, it will be interesting to see if Verizon distributes Katzenberg’s offerings.). Most entrepreneurs today don’t remember the Dot-Com bubble of 1995 or the Dot-Com crash that followed in 2000.

I’ve been working with Matt since 2000. The two companies did the same thing and were the only two competitors in a nascent category called “email change of address” (Veripost’s original name was IECOA which stood for “Internet Email Change of Address”). Matt was the co-founder/CEO of Return Path.

And so it happened that between 2000-2008 I was the biggest buzz kill at dinner parties. It’s true that it’s cheaper to start companies now and cheaper to get distribution. The problem is that this is longer than the average economic cycle , which means you need to be able to manage in good times and bad.

Regular computers must be united into a sophisticated computing network; big tasks should be broken into smaller ones; and all the possible contingencies — like slow internet or sudden computer shutdowns — must be taken into consideration. (Unless it’s a high-end supercomputer with a computing capacity of 10 000 regular PCs.) Prime time.
