Traditional video had very high costs of distribution due to limited time slots of broadcast TV (we only had enough spectrum to support 3-4 channels). The number of channels grew with cable & satellite TV but we still have limitations that makes distributing content high. But distribution is now unlimited. Not so fast.

You can’t succeed in business without an operational model that delivers value to customers at a reasonable price, with an underlying cost that allows you to make a profit. You must use self-promotion early and often through viral videos, blogging, and industry leadership, to establish credibility with your customers. Businesses that operate with no margin for recovery are doomed go get a bad image, if not total failure. Of course, you can’t possibly brand yourself if you don’t know who you really are.

I had really positive experiences such as working with Greg Gretsch at Sigma Partners where he championed us to a partners’ meeting where we sort of got crucified. We made changes and Greg was a gentleman throughout the process rather than berating us for our performance (it was our first partners’ meeting).

I think the other thing that sort of made me jump pretty early on the testing is we had been setting up this clinical trial with a partner for probably about six months, with a collaborator who had typically been incredibly responsive and would jump on the phone at a moment's notice. We were supposed to have the kickoff meeting.
