I myself didnt understand it until I had the opportunity to view that failure through the lens of the customer development theory.

Instead of telling people to look for *the* root cause, I have them search for *a* or *some* root causes. I suppose we could ask "why does our relationship with this vendor allow these problems to continually arise?" I feel like I would have to introduce this by stealth. As usual, this is a great post.
