The Consultative Sale Our sales guy then quietly asked if there was any way we could help them. The VP of Engineering says, “well we don’t have the resources or time, and as long as you know we could build better computers then you guys, why don’t you tell us the details about your computers.” Help them?!!

So I initially gravitated to the CTO title, and not VP of Engineering. In school I was being pounded day and night with anything that has to do with agile software development. I would love to have an effective CTO or VP of Engineering to manage me.

You can measure this yourself: go to any list of startups, maybe look at YCombinator’s recent graduate class , or Scoble’s list of picks for 2010 , or Sequoia’s list of seed companies — or go find a list you like better. Nothing says contraction negotiation like the smell of cordite. How about ABAPer?
